Tawaif. Historia y Arqueología de los reinos de taifas de al-Andalus y el Magreb

Entre los días 22 y 25 de noviembre se celebrará en la sede de la Fundación Euroárabe (días 22 y 23 de noviembre) y en La Alhambra (día 24 de noviembre), el congreso “Ṭawā’if. Historia y Arqueología de los Reinos de Taifas. Al-Andalus y el Magreb” , dedicado a uno de los periodos más relevantes de la historia de al-Andalus: el siglo XI. Etapa de gran fragmentación política y, por consiguiente, de debilidad y retroceso territorial, el periodo de taifas fue al mismo tiempo el de máximo esplendor cultural y crecimiento urbano de al-Andalus. En efecto, el nacimiento de nuevos estados-partidos va a suponer un impulso sin precedentes al fenómeno urbano andalusí, puesto que desde la mayor conciencia de sus a veces reducidos territorios, estos se verán obligados a intensificar el desarrollo de sus espacios, algo que sucede especialmente en las sedes de los nuevos poderes, como Granada.

Con este congreso internacional Ṭawā’if (=Taifas), se pretende arrojar luz a una etapa que tradicionalmente situada en los márgenes más oscuros de la Historia de al-Andalus, pero sobre la que desde hace unas décadas ha comenzado a multiplicarse los estudios especializados. Con tal objeto, se apuesta por un tipo de aproximación pluridisciplinar, incluyéndose ponencias sobre los diferentes fuentes de conocimiento que están a nuestra disposición: fuentes escritas, literatura, numismática, epigrafía y, por supuesto, historia y arqueología. En una reunión plural en la que contaremos con la participación de representantes de numerosas instituciones de investigación y de enseñanza superior, tales como: la Universidad de Granada, el Laboratorio de Arquitectura y Arqueología de la Ciudad de Granada-CSIC, Universidad de Orleans, Universidad Nova de Lisboa, Campo Arqueológico de Mértola, Universidad del Algarve, Universidad de Salamanca, Universidad de Málaga, Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha, Universidad de Zaragoza, Museo Arqueológico de Alicante, Museo Arqueológico de Denia y el Instituto de Estudios Almerienses. Todo ello en aras de favorecer un debate amplio y abierto entre los principales agentes de investigación sobre esta undécima centuria. Así mismo, se tratarán todas las grandes zonas de la geografía andalusí : del occidente (Garb) al Levante (Šarq) y de la frontera superior (al-Ṯagr al-A‛lā) a los mares de Alborán (Baḥr al-Būrān/Garnāṭa) y el Mediterráneo (Baḥr al-Rūm, hoy al-Muṭawassiṭ).

Conscientes de que solo desde un análisis exhaustivo y multidisciplinar de cada una de las taifas se podrá perfeccionar nuestra visión global de este siglo XI y establecer las claves socioeconómicas, políticas y culturales de su evolución. Este congreso destinado a toda persona interesada en la materia, principalmente a historiadores, arqueólogos y arabistas, se dividirá en 5 sesiones cada una centrada en una zona o aspecto de las taifas, concediéndosele un especial protagonismo, a la taifa zirí de Granada que gozará de una sesión dedicada exclusivamente a ella. Las sesiones serían las siguientes: 1. FUENTES PARA EL ESTUDIO DE LAS TAIFAS 2. TAIFAS DEL OCCIDENTE DE AL-ANDALUS 3. TAIFAS COSTERAS 4. TAIFAS BERÉBERES, CUESTIONES GENERALES Y ALMORÁVIDES 5. LA TAIFA ZIRÍ DE GRANADA El programa del congreso se completará con dos conferencias-visita (2h), una a La Alhambra exclusivamente para las/los conferenciantes y otra a los restos ziríes del siglo XI, que correrán a cargo de los especialistas José M. Puerta Vílchez y Juan A. García Granados respectivamente.

From 22nd to 25th November, the congress “Ṭawā’if”. History and Archeology of the Kingdoms of Taifas will take place at the headquarters of the Euro-Arab Foundation (22 and 23nd November) and at the Alhambra ( 24th November ), dedicated to one of the most important periods in the history of al-Andalus: the Eleventh Century. Stage of great political fragmentation and, consequently, weakness and territorial regression, the period of taifas was at the same time one of the maximum cultural splendor and urban growth of al-Andalus. In effect, the birth of new party-states is going to suppose an unprecedented impulse to the Andalusian urban phenomenon, since from the greater awareness of their sometimes reduced territories, these will be forced to intensify the development of their spaces, especially in the headquarters of the new powers, like Granada.

The aim of this international congress Ṭawā’if (= Taifas) is to shed light on the stage traditionally located in the darkest margins of al-Andalus History, but on which specialised studies have begun to multiply for several decades. . For this purpose, we are committed to a kind of multidisciplinary approach, including presentations on the different sources of knowledge available on the Art : written sources, literature, numismatics, epigraphy and, of course, history and archeology. Numerous representatives of research institutions and higher education will participate in this plural congress, such as: the University of Granada, the LAAC-CSIC, University of Orleans, University Nova of Lisboa,Campo Arqueológico of Mértola, University of the Algarve, University of Salamanca, University of Málaga, University of Castilla-La Mancha, University of Zaragoza, Archaeological Museum of Alicante, Archaeological Museum of Denia and the Instituto de Estudios Almerienses. All this in order to favor a broad and open debate among the main research agents on this eleventh century. Likewise, all the major areas of the Andalusian geography will be treated: from the west (Garb) to the east (Šarq) and from the upper border (al-Ṯagr al-A’lā) to the Alborán (Baḥr al-Būrān / Garnāṭa) and the Mediterranean Seas (Baḥr al-Rūm, today al-Muṭawassiṭ).

Indeed, only from an exhaustive and multidisciplinary analysis of each of the taifas we will be able to perfect the global vision of this eleventh century and to establish the socio-economic, political and cultural keys of its evolution. This congress is intended for everyone interested in this subject, mainly for historians, archaeologists and arabists. It will be divided into 5 sessions each one dealing with one area or aspect of the taifas. Among them, a particular interest is granted to the Zirid taifa of Granada which has an own session. The sessions are the following: 1. SOURCES FOR THE STUDY OF THE TAIFAS 2. TAIFAS OF THE WEST OF AL-ANDALUS 3. COASTAL TAIFAS 4. BERBER TAIFAS, GENERAL QUESTIONS AND ALMORÁVIDES 5. LA ZIRID TAIFA OF GRANADA The program of the congress will be completed with two conferences-visit (2h), one to the Alhambra exclusively for the lecturers and another to the Zirid remains of the eleventh century, which will be carried out by the specialists in the subject, José M.
