The 14th AIDA Conference will be held at the University of Granada’s Faculty of Translation and Interpreting in Granada, Spain, from June 28th to July 1st, 2022, and is sponsored by the university’s Department of Semitic Studies and Faculty of Translation and Interpreting, as well as the School of Arabic Studies (Escuela de Estudios Árabes), a research institution under the auspices of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC).
Fees
Topic areas. Papers may be submitted on topics from any sub-field related to Arabic dialectology, such as hitherto undescribed dialects, dialectal geography, specific aspects of phonology, morphology and syntax, code-switching, Arabic-based koiné languages, pidgins and creoles, the lexicon of Arabic dialects, dialect atlases, comparative and diachronic studies, sociolinguistics, including studies on attitudes and ideology, the teaching of Arabic dialects and literacy in Arabic dialects.
Paper presentations. Presenters should plan to limit their presentation to 20 minutes, to be followed by a 10-minute question and answer session. The conference halls will be equipped with basic audio-video equipment such as computer projectors, projection screens, microphones and speaker systems.
Conference languages. The languages of the conference will be Arabic, English and French.
Abstracts. Papers must present original and innovative research. The text of each abstract – written in Arabic, English or French and not exceeding 300 words – should clearly highlight the results of the research to be presented in the paper and their context. Abstracts must be sent by e-mail as both .doc/.docx and .pdf documents to aidagranada2021@gmail.com and must include the author’s full name and academic affiliation and position. If the paper has more than one author, full information for all authors must be provided with the abstract. The abstracts of all papers will be published in the booklet distributed at the conference.
If the conference paper accepted for AIDA 14 has already been presented in another academic event (and only in this case), you can submit a new abstract from September 1st to the 15th, 2021. Please, keep in mind that it will go through an evaluation process.
The same dates are valid for those who would like to cancel their participation in AIDA 14, and for a few new participants. Since we can only accept a reduced number of abstracts (approximately 10, more if there is any cancelation), the new abstracts will be reviewed and accepted on a first-come first-served basis.
Funding for young scholars. Upon selection by the Executive Board of AIDA, 10 young scholars will be offered financial support amounting to a maximum of €250 per person to cover the conference registration fee and help with other costs related to travel or lodging. Young scholars whose papers have been accepted by the Scientific Committee and who are interested in applying for this funding should submit their applications via e-mail to Assistant Prof. Liesbeth Zack at E.W.A.Zack@uva.nl. For more information, see the GRANTS FOR YOUNG RESEARCHERS tab on this website.
Further important information. Further details, including information about conference fee payment methods and accommodation options in Granada, will be emailed to you once you have registered online for the conference. This information will also be available on this website shortly. Should you have any questions regarding the conference, please send your inquiry to aidagranada2021@gmail.com.
