The International Conference on Scalable Uncertainty Management (SUM) is an annual conference that was launched in 2007 with the goal to exploit and strengthen the connection between the Artificial Intelligence and Database communities. It aims at bringing together all those researchers interested in the management of uncertain, incomplete or inconsistent information. Such information originates commonly in applications where significant computational effort is needed to process data in a meaningful and semantically justifiable manner. Typical applications of that kind include databases, the Web, and the life sciences. Works will be presented coming from all areas of management and reasoning with important and complex types of uncertain, incomplete or inconsistent information. Risk analysis, automatic learning, belief networks, uncertainty logic, revision and updating of beliefs, argumentation, negotiation technologies, semantic web applications, search engines, ontology systems, information fusion, information retrieval, natural language, information extraction, image recognition, vision systems and data and text mining. The conference proceedings book will be published in the Springer series “Lecture Notes in Artificial Intelligence”. The conference will take place at the University of Granada from 4 to 6 October, after previous conferences took place in Washington, DC, Naples, Toulouse, Dayton, Marburg, Oxford, Québec and Nice. The conference is held at the Higher Technical School of Computer Engineering and Telecommunication at the University of Granada. This faculty is one of the most reputed schools in Europe, due in large part to research in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence. It is located in the University Campus of Aynadamar, next to the Research Center of Information and Communication Technologies of the University of Granada (CITIC-UGR) and the Center of Enterprises of Technologies of the Information and Communication of the University of Granada ( CETIC-UGR).
