A la escucha de nuestro presente: una cartografía de las culturas musicales en el siglo XXI

La etnomusicología ha ido, poco a poco, transformando su relación con la historia gracias al constante diálogo con otras disciplinas, fundamentalmente la antropología y los estudios culturales, hasta ampliar radicalmente sus fronteras, objetos y enfoques de estudio. Así, bajo la idea de que comprender el presente implica prestar atención al modo en el que el pasado lo alimenta y reconcebir el futuro a cada momento, el XVII Congreso de SIBE 2023, XII Congreso de la IASPM-España y IV Congreso de la ICTM España se plantea como un espacio en el que reflexionar sobre el presente cambiante en el que habitamos.

En las dos décadas que llevamos del siglo XXI han sucedido cambios estructurales fundamentales para la cultura, la sociedad y la política. Este congreso busca entender, a partir de ellos, los procesos de transformación de las prácticas de consumo, de la experiencia, de la creación y de la reflexión en torno y a partir de la música, así como sus mediaciones en la actualidad. Se busca, por tanto, rastrear cómo se puede historizar el presente desde las herramientas de la etnomusicología actual.

El principal objetivo de este encuentro es proponer herramientas metodológicas, conceptuales y teórico-prácticas para auscultar el presente, es decir, prestar atención a los fenómenos sonoros que nos rodean, nos congregan, nos repelen o nos interpelan. Significa, en suma, la apertura al cambio y la disposición a revisar los posibles prejuicios y vicios heredados a lo largo de los años en la (y por la) disciplina.

Por ello, en este congreso se prestará especial importancia a nuestra capacidad de dialogar y confrontar ideas, ya que entendemos que este es el principal pilar de una producción científica sana y fructífera. Esto se materializará por medio de diversas estrategias, como la realización de talleres, mesas temáticas o la inclusión de un relator encargado de llevar la réplica en las ponencias plenarias.

En este sentido, se abre la llamada a contribuciones sobre algunos de los siguientes temas:

• Las músicas populares actuales, con especial atención a la emergencia de nuevos géneros o el revival de épocas anteriores.
• El lugar de la música en el contexto digital e intermedia: escenas virtuales, microgéneros, cultura algoritmica y streaming, inteligencias artificiales, etc.
• Música, audiovisual e interactividad: videojuegos, redes sociales, apps de creación y consumo musical, etc.
• La articulación de identidades mediadas por la música: procesos de racialización, género(s) en disputa, corporalidades disidentes, etc.
• Los procesos de hibridación social y musical atravesados en la actualidad ante la constante redefinición de las relaciones centro-periferia.
• La reivindicación del folclore y las tradiciones musicales locales llevadas a cabo en el presente.
• Experimentación y exploración sonora contemporáneas.
• El cuerpo y la música, con especial énfasis en fenómenos como el baile, la fiesta o la dimensión performativa.

Asimismo, escuchar nuestro presente significa prestar atención a la investigación joven y sus propuestas. Para ello llevaremos a cabo “SIBE Junior”, una convocatoria aparte para que el alumnado de grado y máster (así como cualquiera que esté empezando en la investigación) pueda hacerse oír en este congreso. En ella las personas que participen tendrán la posibilidad de recibir retroalimentación por parte de expertos relatores escogidos por afinidad temática.

De este modo, se establecen tres modalidades principales de participación: comunicación individual para el congreso general, comunicación individual para jóvenes investigadores y mesas temáticas. Para las dos primeras será necesario enviar un resumen de hasta 300 palabras acompañado de cinco palabras clave y la línea de investigación a la que se adscribe. Por su parte, las mesas temáticas requerirán de un resumen de hasta 1000 palabras en el que se aborde el planteamiento general de la mesa y la temática de las intervenciones individuales que la compondrán.

Ethnomusicology has gradually transformed its relationship with history through its constant dialogue with other disciplines, mainly anthropology and cultural studies, to the point of radically expanding its frontiers, objects and approaches of study. Thus, under the idea that understanding the present implies paying attention to the way in which the past nourishes it and reconceiving the future at every moment, the XVII Congress of SIBE 2023, XII Congress of the IASPM-Spain and IV Congress of the ICTM Spain is proposed as a space in which to reflect on the changing present in which we live.

In the two decades of the 21st century, fundamental structural changes have taken place in culture, society and politics. This conference seeks to understand, on the basis of these changes, the processes of transformation of consumption practices, experience, creation and reflection around and on the basis of music, as well as its present-day mediations. The aim, therefore, is to trace how the present can be historicised using the resources of current ethnomusicology.

The main objective of this meeting is to propose methodological, conceptual and theoretical-practical instruments to listen to the present, that is, to pay attention to the sound phenomena that surround us, congregate us, repel us or question us. It means, in short, openness to change and a willingness to review the possible prejudices and vices inherited over the years in (and by) the discipline.

For this reason, special importance will be given at this congress to our ability to dialogue and confront ideas, as we understand that this is the main pillar of a healthy and fruitful scientific production. This will be materialised through various strategies, such as workshops, thematic round tables or the inclusion of a rapporteur in charge of the reply to the plenary papers.

In this regard, a call for contributions is opened on some of the following topics:

• Popular music today, with special attention to the emergence of new genres or the revival of previous eras.
• The place of music in the digital and intermedia context: virtual scenes, micro-genres, algorithmic culture and streaming, artificial intelligences, etc.
• Music, audiovisual and interactivity: video games, social networks, apps for music creation and consumption, etc.
• The articulation of identities mediated by music: processes of racialisation, gender(s) in dispute, dissident corporealities, etc.
• The processes of social and musical hybridisation currently underway in the face of the constant redefinition of centre-periphery relations.
• The vindication of folklore and local musical traditions carried out in the present.
• Contemporary sound experimentation and exploration.
• Body and music, with special emphasis on phenomena such as dance, the party or the performative dimension. Likewise, listening to our present means paying attention to young research and its proposals.

To this end, there is ” SIBE Junior “, a separate call for bachelor’s and master’s degree students (as well as anyone who is just starting out in research) to make themselves heard at this congress. In it, participants will have the opportunity to receive feedback from expert rapporteurs chosen by thematic affinity.

In this way, three main modalities of participation have been established: individual communication for the general congress, individual communication for young researchers and thematic panels. For the first two, it will be necessary to send an abstract of up to 300 words accompanied by five key words and the line of research to which it belongs. The thematic round tables will require an abstract of up to 1000 words in which it will be addressed the general approach of the round table and the theme of the individual interventions that will constitute it.
