To.Sc.al’And: Total Scattering for Nanotechnology in Al Andalus follows international Summer Schools that are organized within the initiatives of the Lake Como School of Advanced Studies in Italy; these events are fully dedicated to fore-front characterization methods, based on scattering techniques (from X-rays to visible light), developed for the multiple (atomic and nanometer) scale investigation of engineered nanomaterials. The aim of this School is to deepen both theoretical and applied frontier developments of the different scattering techniques and highlight differences, complementarities and possibilities of combining them. The School includes also hands-on tutorials on widely used data analyses tools. The event is open to scholars and scientists in any area related to Nanoscience and Nanotechnology and it is especially addressed to PhD students and young postdocs. Main topics of the To.sc.al’And include:

  • Basic of X-ray Scattering/Diffraction for polycrystalline materials and of experiments at synchrotron and laboratory scales
  • Fundamentals and applications of Wide-Angle X-ray Total Scattering (WAXTS) Techniques to Engineered Nanomaterials (ENMs)
  • Reciprocal-space analysis of ENMs based on the Debye Scattering Equation (DSE)
  • Real-space analysis of ENMs based on the Pair Distribution Function (PDF)
  • Fundamentals and applications of Small Angle X-ray Scattering (SAXS).
  • Hands-on on the software Suites: Debussy and PDFGui
