La ciudad de Granada / The city of Granada

Granada is the capital city of the province of Granada. It is located at the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountains, in the Baetic System, the highest in the Iberian Peninsula. Located in eastern Andalusia, in southern Spain, it enjoys one of the greatest cultural heritage of this country. In addition to the world-famous Alhambra and the Albaicín neighborhood, designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, Granada has a Renaissance cathedral whose construction began in the 16th century. Many other monuments dot the city in each of its corners.

Granada is mainly a university city. It has a population of about 250,000 inhabitants, and about 60,000 university students. In addition, some 20,000 inhabitants are linked to the university as researchers, teachers, and administration and services personnel directly related to the University of Granada. This makes Granada an outstanding student environment that results in a multicultural and welcoming destination.

The Symposium campus will be the Faculty of Science, which is located a short distance from the center of Granada.

The Faculty of Science is a Reference Center of the University of Granada, created in 1857, which currently has about 1000 teachers and researchers, almost 6000 students and about 100 members of the administration and services staff. In it 12 degree titles are taught. Also it participates in 19 master's degrees and 10 doctoral programs. The Faculty of Science is a pioneer in programs and projects of scientific dissemination, being a national reference. It is also significant the international vocation of the Faculty, both teaching and research, with many collaborations / relationships with other Universities and Research Centers.

Como llegar a la ciudad / How to get to the city

By plane: the main airport of the province is about 15 minutes from the capital. From the same airport you can use one of the multiple buses that are dedicated to the transport of passenger flights, to the city center.

By train: the train station is located in the center of the city. Granada is connected with AVE, high-speed trains, to Madrid, Barcelona, Seville, Zaragoza and many other cities in Spain.

By bus: you can reach Granada thanks to the complete bus system available, located in the northern district of the city, about 3 km from the center of the city. It has good connections to the center through the subway line and urban bus lines numbers 33, 21 and 5.
